Seed we have grown ourselves, in quantities we can stand behind
Harrowfield is a two-and-a-half acre seed garden. Everything in the catalogue is open-pollinated — nothing hybrid, nothing treated — and about three quarters of it is grown here. The rest comes from four other small growers we have bought from for years, and the catalogue says which is which.
We are not a big house. In a bad year for a particular crop there simply is no seed of it, and we would rather print that than substitute something similar without telling you.

Germination testing
Every lot is tested before it is packed, and the tested figure is printed on the packet with the date. If a lot falls below the standard for its species, it goes on the compost rather than into a packet marked "sow thickly".
Who buys from us
Mostly gardeners and allotment holders, a handful of market growers, and a few seed libraries who take larger lots and hand them on. If you are running a seed library and want quantities we do not list, write and ask.
